Life's a beach

Last week, we packed up our bermudas and flip flops and boarded a plane to spend our Spring Break in San Diego. I wish I could say "sunny San Diego", but alas, it wasn't meant to be. :-( For the most part, the weather was cool and overcast so I spent much of the week trying to stay warm by wearing the only pair of thermal underwear I brought and my trusty ski parka. I'm pretty sure I'm the first and only person to wear these wardrobe items to the beach in San Diego, but hey, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!

We packed in a lot of fun activities, but more importantly, we spent a lot of down time together ... playing some variation of kick ball or smash ball on the beach located just outside our big picture window, drawing pictures and carving our initials in the sand with a stick, meandering down the boardwalk together way past our bedtimes, competing in jumping contests off of the lifeguard tower, flying a five dollar kite as high as the string would allow. For us, there is really nothing like having a beach vacation to remind you to slow down, breathe deep and live in this very moment, here and now. My hope is that returning to view these photographs in the future will gently remind me to nurture those places and spaces of respite, wherever I may find myself ... beach or no beach.

  1. I feel the same way at the beach. It is deliberate living in the moment, surrendering to the wind and waves and being reminded to just TAKE IT IN! Love the pictures!
