Life's a beach

Last week, we packed up our bermudas and flip flops and boarded a plane to spend our Spring Break in San Diego. I wish I could say "sunny San Diego", but alas, it wasn't meant to be. :-( For the most part, the weather was cool and overcast so I spent much of the week trying to stay warm by wearing the only pair of thermal underwear I brought and my trusty ski parka. I'm pretty sure I'm the first and only person to wear these wardrobe items to the beach in San Diego, but hey, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!

We packed in a lot of fun activities, but more importantly, we spent a lot of down time together ... playing some variation of kick ball or smash ball on the beach located just outside our big picture window, drawing pictures and carving our initials in the sand with a stick, meandering down the boardwalk together way past our bedtimes, competing in jumping contests off of the lifeguard tower, flying a five dollar kite as high as the string would allow. For us, there is really nothing like having a beach vacation to remind you to slow down, breathe deep and live in this very moment, here and now. My hope is that returning to view these photographs in the future will gently remind me to nurture those places and spaces of respite, wherever I may find myself ... beach or no beach.

Crushing on this music

I think it's such an interesting phenomenon when music, photographs, video or any art for that matter, reaches out, grabs you and takes you for a twirl. I often find it difficult to explain why a particular image or a certain song can make my heart sing. It just unexpectedly, surprisingly does. I stumbled onto this video of a song called "Old Times" by Whispertown 2000 and I immediately sat up a little straighter, listened a little closer and drank up the delicious goodness.

Shooting around downtown

I had the best time shooting pics of this 14 year old today ... yes, I did say 14. I know she actually looks 17, but it seems like kids are looking older and older at younger ages these days. Oh man, now I'm really starting to sound like an old fogey! I was very pleased with the finished images, but I did wish I had more time to explore all the funky nooks and crannies of downtown. Ah, another time, another time ... for now, I'll leave you with a few images from my creative exploits for the day. I'm posting the rest on Flickr so you'll have to giddy up on over there to check out the rest of 'em. Night y'all!
